UKSA watersports and team-building
A three-night, two and a half day programme based at the United Kingdom Sailing Academy, interacting with American students in learning to sail and water-based confidence-building activities.

Day 1 - LONDON
Arrive London and transfer to Hampton Court Palace followed by lunch. Transfer to London hotel and check in. Dinner.
DAY 2 - LONDON
Meet your Blue Badge Guide for your London panoramic tour. Lunch with Henry VIII before a visit to the Tower of London then on to London’s theatre land before dinner followed by a visit to one of London’s leading West End shows.
DAY 3 - LONDON
Visit a London premier division football club or the new Wembley Stadium before a visit to the All England Lawn Tennis And Croquet Club (AELTC) for an orientation and the museum. Dinner is followed by a flight on the British Airways London Eye.
DAY 4 - UKSA overnight on a yacht
Transfer to Portsmouth to cross the Solent to the headquarters of the UK Sailing Academy (UKSA):
• Arrival and introduction to course
• Aims and objectives including leadership and team working, improved personal and team performance
• Workshop on fitness and nutrition
• Move on to yacht for safety briefing
• Yachting in Solent looking at crew competency, boat handling, seamanship, teamwork, basic passage planning, watch keeping
• All delegates to the top of the mast.
DAY 5 - UKSA overnight on a yacht
Solent flotilla (up to 10 yachts) to include safety drills such as man overboard, collision avoidance, rules of the road, basic navigation. Overnight at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth
DAY 6 - UKSA overnight on a yacht
Sail around the Nab Tower for out of Solent conditions
• Working on improving sailing drills – tacking, gybing, sail changes
• Introduction to spinnakers (weather permitting)
• Overnight at anchor in Osborne Bay
DAY 7 - UKSA overnight on a yacht
Solent flotilla (up to10 yachts) to include racing techniques, race training and afternoon racing with the rest of the fleet.
• RTI Race briefing and team strategy
• Overnight in Yarmouth (or Lymington)
DAY 8 - UKSA overnight on a yacht
Early start for Round the Island fleet race
• Overnight in Cowes
DAY 9 - UKSA
Move off yachts for a shore-based phase
• Nutrition and “fit for life”
• Leadership tasks
• Powerboating
• Inspirational presentation (Shirley Robertson OBE, double Olympic gold medal sailor, Ian Walker, America’s Cup Skipper and Olympic Medalist)
• Evening activities and interaction with UKSA trainees
DAY 10 - UKSA
• Early morning fitness
• Dinghy sailing – team racing
• Evening activities and interaction with UKSA trainees
DAY 11 - UKSA
• Early morning fitness
• Dinghy sailing including high performance craft, trapezing and multi-hull sailing
• Night time exercise – Tennyson trail involving leadership tasks and team strategy (finish around midnight or later).
DAY 12 - UKSA
• Early morning fitness. Warm up and stretch - health body, healthy mind
• Managing risk
• Kitesurfing or Windsurfing
• Evening activities and interaction with UKSA trainees
DAY 13 - UKSA
• A chance to choose favourite water based activity for another session – Dinghy, Keelboat, Kayak, Windsurf
• Course debrief
• Presentation and course close.
DAY 14 - UKSA
Depart UKSA by Jenny boat to Portsmouth.
• Orientation of the historic Royal Dockyard.
• Lunch.
• Transfer to London’s Covent Garden for last minute shopping and souvenir hunting!
• Dinner at hotel.
