Belgium

Belgium and Brussels are easily reached from the UK by Eurostar and are a very popular choice for a short break programme or in combination with a visit to Amsterdam, Paris or London.

ECE has close links to the EU Parliament for arranging visits and lectures as well as experience in organising special interest tours throughout the country covering battlefields and WW1 and WW2 history in particular.

Accommodation ranges from 4-star city central to 3-star converted manor houses to family-oriented country activity centres offering swimming, cycling, walking, team sports and team-building - often interacting with other international guests.

The cities of Bruges and Ghent are a popular detour from the usual visit to Brussels as detailed in the example itineraries below.

Belgium Breakout

Day 1

Arrive in Brussels and enjoy a panoramic tour including sights such as The Atomium, Mini-Europe, the European Parliament and a visit to a chocolate factory. Overnight Brussels.

Day 2

This morning travel to beautiful Ghent - the biggest city in East Flanders. Enjoy a city walk and visit the impressive cathedral before travelling to Bruges to enjoy a canal cruise. Overnight Bruges.

Day 3

Today travel to Antwerp to see the famous market square and guildhouses and to visit the maritime museum. In the afternoon travel to Waterloo, the last battleground of Napoleon Bonaparte and home to The Duke of Wellington museum. Overnight Antwerp.

Days 1 and 2

Day 3

Today travel to Antwerp to see the famous market square and guildhouses and to visit the maritime museum. Travel to Middelburg to see the impressive Delta Works before ending your day in the world famous port of Rotterdam.

Day 4

This morning continue to the Dutch capital, The Hague, the seat of the Dutch Parliament, for a panoramic tour of the city including sights such as the Binnenhof and the Peace Palace. Visit Delft, renowned for its pottery for lunch then on to a Dutch farm to learn about cheese- and clog-making before arriving in Amsterdam.

Day 5

Enjoy a canal cruise tour of Amsterdam for a waterborne perspective of this fascinating city followed by a guided walking tour including the flowermarket and a visit to a diamond factory. In the afternoon travel to the traditional fishing port of Volendam to taste raw herring!
