The Harrogate International Youth Festival - Music & Performing Arts is Britain's longest established and most successful youth music festival and takes place each Easter week in the historic spa town of Harrogate situated in the north of England. The Festival has featured performers from South Africa to Australia and the USA to China and offers visiting ensembles an opportunity to perform and meet with young people from across the world during their participation at this exciting event.
With guaranteed audiences at prestigious venues, the Festival offers your performers both a true cultural experience and ensures that your ensemble is linked with international excellence and creativity.
Sample Festival Itinerary
Day 1
• Groups arrive in Harrogate and check into accommodation or meet host families for evening meal
• Conductor and Group Leader reception
Day 2
• Massed Festival photograph
• Opening ceremony
• Guided tour of the historic spa town of Harrogate
• Performances at community venues
• Grand Opening Concert in the historic Royal Hall
Day 3
• Suitable ensembles perform at local church services
• Excursion to Harewood House, home of the 7th Earl of Harewood, for sightseeing and informal performance opportunity
• Big Band and Swing Night Civic Reception and Festival Disco attended by the Mayor
Day 4
• Performance at the Art Deco Sun Pavilion situated in the Valley Gardens
• Easter performance at St. Wilfrid's Church
Day 5
• Massed orchestra and choir rehearsals at Ripon Cathedral dating back to AD672
• Afternoon excursions to Ripley, home of Ripley Castle where the Ingilby family has resided since 1320
• Choir and Strings Evening at Ripon Cathedral featuring a massed choir performance
Day 6
• Massed band rehearsal
• Free time for final sightseeing and shopping in Harrogate
• Grand Finale Concert at the Harrogate International Centre
Day 7
• Groups depart from Harrogate
